Sage - genus Salvia
The name "Salvia" comes from the Latin salvere, meaning "to heal," or "to be safe and unharmed".
Different varieties of sage have been used throughout history for healing and in homeopathic remedies: as a digestive aid, for oral inflammation,
to improve circulation, eliminate nausea, for colds, fever, headache and sore throat and as an anti-microbial. It will dry up secretions and
has been used to expel afterbirth and reduce breast milk. Sage can be taken in a tea, up to three times a day, but for no more than seven consecutive days out of thirty. *
Sage improves brain function and memory and when burned in smudges or as incense it has a healing
aromatherapy effect and produces a feeling of peace and well-being.
White sage (Salvia apiana), is most often used ceremonially due to the usage by Native Americans (probably because it grew wild in the areas they inhabited)
for it's spiritually purifying effects. All sage, however, has very similar beneficial effects, both physically and psychologically.
We offer two types of sage, the traditional white sage (s.apiana) and whole-leaf (s.officinalis L). Saliva Officinalis is imported from
Albania and is the "gold" standard for culinary sage.
It is considered to possess the finest and most characteristic sage aroma. A pinch of this sage on a hot coal produces an amazing and long
