Making Personal Amulets
In early times, a person in need of protection, a love spell or medical treatment might have gone
to a witch or shaman for advice. This was usually the local herbologist, wise woman or mid-wife). They
were usually given a magic object or bundle of herbs that were either carried on the body or
taken home to brew into a tea before consuming them according to directions.
In the making of Amulets we use many different forms of symbolic "magic". The magic of Amulets
comes from using the elements of nature as provided by Mother Earth. The
Amulets can be as simple or as complex as you want to make them and can be worn around
the neck, placed by your bed or under your pillow or carried in a bag or your pocket.
The benefit you receive from your Amulet will be directly related to the effort and personal energy you put into it.
There are many different methods for making an Amulet and this
is only one. You may find another method works better for you. You can use as many or as
few of the suggestions listed below for your Amulet but you should complete the
Amulet with purification and Charging. Click on the links below for detailed information on each step of the process.

- The Amulet design
- Choose the contents of your Amulet (one or more of the following)
- Herbs and their characteristics.
- Astrological & Healing Crystal / Gemstone chart
- Miscellaneous Items - You can select other items for including in your Amulet to direct
the focus of the Amulet to a particular person. These items can be
bits of fabric from a well worn or loved piece of clothing, strands of hair, clippings from nails, pictures, a favorite flower. To protect
your home you could include a picture.
- Purification and Charging
Example Amulet design:
Let's say I wanted to make a protection Amulet for a friend who has been on the receiving end of
some nasty gossip. After getting her permission, I would start
by choosing the color and type of material. I will use white cotton for the Amulet.
My friend is a Capricorn so I will inscribe the outside of the cloth with the
Astrological sign for Capricorn and I'll also inscribe her name using one of the magical alphabets.
I'll get a small piece of cloth from something she's worn and in it I'll wrap a tiger's eye, a piece of red jasper and
some strands of hair from her brush. I'll also include a small picture of her. I would then hand stitch the Amulet
and fill it with the items I had gathered together. While I'm putting the Amulet together, I'll meditate
on the purpose for the Amulet.
Purification and Charging the Amulet would be
next and I would do that with my friend present if she were able to be there. Sometimes when making
an Amulet for a sick friend you will have to perform the ritual alone but you can let her know the exact
time of the ceremony and ask her to be with you in spirit.
