Celebrating Yule

Before beginning your ritual, read this page. It will provide you with a method of casting a circle and consecrating your sacred space. It will also list the different items you need for your altar and how to end the ritual with the cakes and wine ceremony.

Being a solitary, these recommendations for celebrating Sabbats have been altered to suit me and my immediate family. I have written these pages as much for myself as for you so that I have a quick reference when planning my Sabbats. But, these are only recommendations. You can add or subtract from them to create your own unique and special way of giving thanks and celebrating the turning of the wheel.
Yule is the Winter soltice, the day of the year with the least amount of daylight. The actual date varies from year to year but most pagans celebrate Yule on December 21. Feel free to celebrate on the actual day of the Winter soltice each year. After this date, the days will be getting longer again. At this celebration we look to our plans for the future and joyously celebrate the rebirth of the Sun.

Decorate your altar and table with things of the season: pinecones, holly branches, and mistletoe. Candles for this ritual can be red and greeen.

After casting your circle give thanks to your deities for the return of the Sun, of life and all the possibilites that the future holds. It would be appropriate here to sing songs of thanks, to dance, or simply sit and meditate over life's blessings as you listen to uplifting music.

End with the cakes and wine ceremony and enjoy your Winter feast.
