Celebrating Lughnasadh
Before beginning your ritual, read this page. It will provide you with a method of casting a circle and consecrating your sacred
space. It will also list the different items you need for your altar and how to end the ritual with the cakes and wine ceremony.
Being a solitary, these recommendations for celebrating Sabbats have been altered to suit me and my immediate family. I have written these pages as much
for myself as for you so that I have a quick reference when planning my Sabbats. But, these are only recommendations. You
can add or subtract from them to create your own unique and special way of giving thanks and celebrating the turning of the wheel.

Lughnasadh (Loon-sah), celebrated on July 31st is sometimes called Lammas. It is the first
major harvest time and originally it may have been the time for the sacrifice of the harvest god.
Decorate your altar and your table with summer fruits, vegetables, summer wine and loaves of bread. In addition to the traditional
white, have yellow and brown candles on your altar and a small loaf of bread.
Cast your circle and welcome your Deities. Pick up the loaf of bread and walk around the circle in the direction of the Sun (clockwise). Stop
at each person and break off a small piece of bread and give it to him/her. Give it to the person to eat and say, "This bread is your gift from the
Gods. Mother Earth bore it with the help of the Sun and the rain." Return to the altar and break off a piece for yourself and repeat the same
thing again. Break off another piece and put it in the libation dish.
End the ritual with the cakes and wine ceremony ( you can use another small loaf for this ). Proceed to your feast with thankfulness in your heart.
