Celebrating Litha
Before beginning your ritual, read this page. It will provide you with a method of casting a circle and consecrating your sacred
space. It will also list the different items you need for your altar and how to end the ritual with the cakes and wine ceremony.
Being a solitary, these recommendations for celebrating Sabbats have been altered to suit me and my immediate family. I have written these pages as much
for myself as for you so that I have a quick reference when planning my Sabbats. But, these are only recommendations. You
can add or subtract from them to create your own unique and special way of giving thanks and celebrating the turning of the wheel.

Litha is the Summer soltice, falling on or around June 21. Whereas Yule was the Winter soltice and marked the time of the shortest day and
longest night, Litha marks the longest day and the shortest night. This is a festival strongly dedicated to Goddess worship. It is mid-season,
the fields are heavy with harvest and the flocks have increased and are caring for their young.
Litha marks the turning point of the year which will lead again to Winter.
Decorate with summer flowers, oak branches, ripe peaches, plums and other summer fruits. As the year matures the colors are turning from
yellows and limes to orange and purple and deep green. Use candles to reflect these maturing colors.
Cast your circle and welcome your Deities. Give thanks to the Earth Goddess for her blessings. Raise an orange candle over your head and
walk around your circle stopping at each person if there are others present, allow the light to fall on each person and say "This is the
light of the Sun with which we have been blessed. It gives warmth to the life provided by the (Earth) Goddess.
Return to the altar and spend some time meditating over the turning of the wheel and of the bounty you have received. If you have songs that
you feel are appropriate, you can sing them now. Give thanks to both the God and the Goddess and ring your bell or chime to cleanse the atmosphere and carry your prayers
End with the cakes and wine ceremony and enjoy your feast
