Consecration Ritual for Pagan, Wicca, Wiccan Sabbat, Moon Ritual and for consecrating an amulet, talismans or gemstones.

How to Purify and Consecrate your Sacred Space in preparation
for a Sabbat or for Dedicating Amulets, Talismans and Gemstones

There are varying methods used for purification and consecration. The ceremony outlined below is a very simple one and can be altered as you see fit. This basic purification ceremony was written for consecrating Talismans, Amulets and Crystals, Gemstones or Crystals and Gemstones but it can be used for all types of purification needs. Just substitute the words, incense, candle colors, etc., that you require for your particular ritual need. You can also use this outline to help you set up your Altar for the different Sabbats or for Moon Ritual workings.

Gather the ritual items
Gather together the items you will need for the ritual, including your Amulet, Talisman or Gemstones, Chakra stones, etc., that you plan to consecrate. You may want to include a silk or linen cloth to wrap the consecrated Amulet or Talisman or a bag to purify and consecrate along with a set of healing gemstones.

Preparing the Altar
Prepare the area or altar that you will use with a cloth, a gold or yellow candle to signify your male Deity and a white candle to signify your female Deity (or brown or green to honor Mother Earth). Even if you only wish to honor the Goddess, you should remember the male/female balance in all natural things. I would also use a candle in the color that corresponds to the astrological sign of the person for whom the work is being done (you can inscribe the person's name and perhaps the astrological sign with the sharp instrument using one of the magical alphabets). Another candle in the color corresponding to the energy you wish to draw should be placed next to the astrological candle. Put out as many altar candles as you wish around the room. They will help you generate additional energy.

Prepare an incense holder with appropriate incense. Sage, because of it's powers of purification is always suitable for this ceremony. You can use stick or cone incense but for a truly spiritual scent, use freshly dried sage on charcoal, or other dried herbs that have the particular energy you require for the working. (To make a charcoal brazier, first prepare a container which can be a small cauldron, heavy stoneware bowl or even a bowl from a larger size mortar and pestle set will work. Fill the container about half way with clean sand, place the charcoal tab on the sand and light it. Only use charcoal made for ritual use, never cooking charcoal, it emits toxic fumes. Once the charcoal is well lit you can sprinkle your herbs on it. It doesn't make any more smoke than stick incense.) On the altar, place a small bowl or saucer as a supplication dish for the gift to the Deities and a bit of cake (or bread, roll, etc.) and wine or juice. A bowl of water and a small bowl of salt for cleansing. You can also use a bell or chimes if you wish. The sweet sound of a bell or chime calls upon the Elements, awakens the spirit and cleanses the area of negativity. A crystal point makes a good wand when held in your hand and can be used to help strengthen the focus of your intent.

Purifying your space and casting the circle
Begin your ritual by quieting your mind and concentrate on your goals. Sprinkle a little of the salt into your water dish and stir a few times with your finger or Athame in a clockwise direction. Beginning in the East or North corner (some say the North is where power emanates and others believe it is the East since that is where the Sun is reborn each day) sprinkle a little water with your fingers or Athame in each corner to purify your circle. Your circle can be room size or it can be the size of a serving tray. As always, it is the intent that matters. Come back to your altar and light the incense. Carry it with you or rotate it around your circle. As you do these things, using whatever words you want, make the statement that no harmful entities or energy will come into your circle. Pick up your wand or crystal and point it at each of the four corners and ask that the Elements watch over and protect you during your ritual. Make the sign of the pentagram if that suits your belief and then declare the circle cast.

Doing the work
Face your altar and light an altar candle. Using the altar candle, light the male Deity candle and ask that the Source of Power (or whatever you want to call it) attend your ceremony (you can sound the bell or chime three times here). Then light the female Deity candle and do the same, using the name that you choose and sounding the bell if you want. Light the colored candle for the work recipient and announce that the candle is being lit for him/her. Take up object that is being consecrated and pass it through the smoke of the incense many times, turning it all ways so that it is completely touched by the smoke. While you are doing this visualize the power that it is accumulating. Announce the reasons that the item, whether an Amulet, a Talisman, or Gemstone is being consecrated. Talk about the power that it has to accomplish your goals. Charge the item with your intent.

When you feel satisfied with your effort, place the item on the altar and wrap it with cloth if you choose to do that. You can now draw energy into your working by a number of methods. Some people like to chant, others dance; I prefer to sit and meditate over my work and send as much energy as possible into the consecrated item. Do this as long as you feel necessary.

Cakes and Wine Ceremony
At this point you should return to the altar, break off a piece of the cake or bread and place it in the supplication dish saying "For the Gods" or "For the Goddess" or both, Then pour a small amount of the wine (or juice) in the supplication dish, again saying "For the Gods", etc. You can now distribute pieces of the cake and glasses of the wine if others are present, relax and discuss or meditate over the work you have done. Thank your Deities for being present and say goodbye. Blow out the candles except for the recipient candle, that one will be left to burn down completely (in a safe place). Although it isn't absolutely necessary, if it helps your mental transition you can announce that the circle is dissolved.

The Cakes and Wine ceremony is a method of giving thanks for what you have already been given and a "thank you in advance" for providing what you may have asked for during your ceremony. Although some feel it is unnecessary if you are going on to a celebration feast, I feel it is appropriate to offer a supplecation at the end of your ritual. If we are going on to a feast, then we carry the supplecation dish to the table so that everyone can give their own offering during the meal when they feel moved to do so.

(This step can be put off until after your Holiday feast if you are having one) Go outside and solemnly thank the Deities and/or Mother Earth. Pour the contents of the supplication on the ground, in a lake or pond, once again giving thanks to your Dieties. You can now clean up your altar and put any consecrated tools, Amulets or Talismans away.

There are different ways of using Talismans and Amulets (or crystals and gemstones) and what you do with them after the ceremony will depend upon their intended use. The following are suggestions only. You should do what feels right to you.
  • Health, Power, Money - wear or carry on your body, next to the skin.
  • Protection, including during Travel - wear or carry on your body next to the skin.
  • To aid in sleep or to induce a lucid dream state - place under your pillow or hang from the bedpost.
  • Attract Love - Wear next to skin or hang from bedpost.
  • Attract Customers - Hang over the door of your business.
  • Protect Hearth and Home - Hang on the opening side of your front door.
  • Poppets & Amulet bags - Wrap in a cloth and put away in a safe place to do it's work.
  • Crystals & Gemstones - Place in the amulet bag and put away until you need to work with them.
