Sprinkle the spell powder lightly on a clean sheet of
paper in about a 3" X 8" area.
While concentrating on the purpose of the spell, hold
your candle by it's base with it pointed away from you.
Use a
small amount of *virgin olive oil and anoint the
candle with the oil from the top of the candle to the
bottom on all sides. The method is: dip your fingers in
the oil, place your fingers at the tip of the candle and
pull the oil toward the base (ie., toward you). Lift your
fingers off the candle, rotate it slightly and apply more
oil. Continue until all sides of the candle are anointed.
The exception here is when you are using the candle for
the purpose of stopping a harmful influence in your life
or eliminating negativity. In this case you would anoint
the candle from base to tip, still holding the candle tip
pointed away from you but you will begin the anointing at
the base and pull the oil away from.
There are many ways used to anoint (or dress) a candle but
in general, you anoint the candle toward you to attract
and you anoint the candle away from you to repel or reverse.
Another method of dressing a candle is to start at the tip
and stop at the center and then start at the base and stop
at the center. This would be for attracting spells. Reverse
the order for warding or banishing spells, ie., start at the
center and anoint towards either end. This method should be
used if you are going to burn a candle from both ends at once.
After the candle has been anointed with oil, lay it on
the spell powder, roll it back and forth to give the
candle a thin coating of the herbs and then place it securely
in (or on) an appropriate candle holder, depending on the
type of candle.
While dressing the candle, you can also verbalize your intentions using simple
incantations. You can use the following as examples but
it's best to be creative and personalize your thoughts
and words to meet your individual needs:
- The object of my desire is coming to me...
- My love's passion/desire for me is growing stronger...
- My body is being healed...
- My body is strong, vigorous; I am the picture of health...
- Prosperity is mine. All that I desire will come to me...
- There is no limit to my luck...
- Protective energy surrounds me/us. No harm can befall me or mine...
You can utilize the candle as part of a formal
ceremony or for simple, but powerful, candle magic. Speak
your desires in whatever way is meaningful to you and
light the candle with reverence and a knowledge that
your desires are being fulfilled.
*(CAUTION: do not use an excessive amount of oil or you may
cause a flare-up or even a fire. Oil is flammable!)
Do not leave a candle unattended, spilled candle wax is
flammable.
Do not place candles where other objects could be ignited.
Always keep candles away from children unless supervised.
